What is asthma?

Asthma is a disease that affects the lungs. When the lungs become inflamed and narrowed, making it hard to breathe, it is described as asthma or an asthma attack.

Asthma often has triggers that vary from person to person. These triggers can be allergens or environmental factors that cause the symptoms of someone’s asthma to worsen.

Symptoms of Asthma

Common symptoms of asthma include:

Wheezing

Coughing

Difficulty catching breath

Tightness in the chest

Asthma Treatment

Asthma treatment measures vary widely based on the severity of symptoms.

Inhalers

Inhalers help by relaxing the muscles in your airways with medication. A medical provider may prescribe you an inhaler for short- or long-term use.

Nebulizer

Nebulizers take the medication needed to help soothe asthma symptoms, and turn it into a mist so you can inhale it to treat your lungs. Nebulizers are available at all WellNow locations to help you feel better, faster.

Steroid injection or oral medication

If asthma symptoms are severe, recommend treatment may include steroid injections or oral medications. A WellNow medical provider will assess you to make sure you get the medication most appropriate for your current condition.
If you are having trouble breathing please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
